This material can be used in two different ways. It can be used for those students who have problems during the course or for those students who ae in second batxiller with the English of the first year of Batxiller.

There are a lot of material. Grammar exercises to improve that part of the English Language. There are also different Reading tests with questions, true false and vocabulary. The student can also find some exercises of Writing suggested by us in order to practice this important skill. Each writing will have a guided one, so the student will learn how to do it in the best way. At the end the student can also find some web pages on line to practice the grammar points. There is also a list of reading books, of different levels, because we cannot forget that it is very important reading in a language in order to learn vocabulary , grammar so on.

PRESENT SIMPLE

 

First the student can read an small explanation of the present simple.

PRESENT CONTINUOUS Form

The present continuous is formed with the verb to be + the principal verb ended in ing

AFFIRMATIVE

I am writing

NEGATIVE

I am not writing or I´m not writing

You/We/they   are not writing or they aren´t writing            

He/She/ it  is not writing    or  it isn´t writing                  

INTERRROGATIVE

Am I writing?

Remember that the verb to be forms can be contracted I´m/you´re/he´s/she´s/it´s/ we´re/ you´re/ they´re

There are also some important rules to remember

In general we add ing to the infinitive form

The verbs ended in consonant +e omit the final e before ing

Verbs ended in vowel+ l double the final l before ing except in American English

Travel/travelling ( American English traveling)

USE. We use the present continuous for

ü      Actions which takee place in the moment of speaking

She´s watering the plants now.

ü      Accions which are happening temporaly not necessary in the moment of speaking

I´m learning French at the moment / My brother is working in a factory at the moment

ü      Future plans which have been confirmed

He´s having dinner with us tonight.

ü      Habitual accions which can irritate the speaker. The sentences used to have the adverb always

He is always talking about himself.

ü      The present continuous is not very used with the following verbs.

Know,like,want,hate,love,need,belong,mean,understand,remember,prefer.

What are you meaning? This is a big error What do you mean?
